Bradford Gold is a thermal batt first, but the same glasswool structure that traps heat also soaks up sound. The open fibre matrix absorbs airborne noise rather than reflecting it, which is why several products in the Gold range carry published NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) ratings — a measure of how much sound energy the material absorbs, on a scale where 1.0 means near-total absorption. Higher-density batts generally rate higher.

In practice that means noticeably less road noise, rain drum and outdoor racket coming through insulated external walls and ceilings, and less sound carrying between rooms when Gold is installed in internal walls or mid-floors — handy around bedrooms, home offices, media rooms and en suites.
