Retrofit Insulation NZ

Retrofit insulation means adding or upgrading insulation in an existing home rather than fitting it during construction. If your house was built before 2008, or never met contemporary standards, retrofitting house insulation brings the whole home back up to spec.

Where to retrofit insulation in your house

A whole-house retrofit usually covers three areas. Each works a little differently in an existing home:

Ceiling. Heat rises, which means an uninsulated or poorly insulated ceiling is the biggest source of heat loss in most homes. Ceiling insulation is usually the easiest and most cost-effective thermal upgrade you can make. See our retrofit ceiling insulation page.

Underfloor. For homes with adequate crawl space, this is one of the most practical ways to reduce heat loss and improve comfort. Underfloor insulation is installed from beneath the house and secured to prevent sagging. More details can be found on our underfloor insulation guide.
